COLÓQUIO (06/11/2015): Monte Carlo method: from Metropolis algorithm to parallel computer simulations (Dra. Alexandra Valentin – Universidade Federal da Paraíba)

The study of complex systems has been enriched in the last decades due the development of generalized ensemble Monte Carlo algorithms and, due parallel computer applications. Such approaches helps to avoid quasi-ergodic problems in this systems by performing a random walk in an enlarged phase space. At this colloquium I intend to present the basic ideas of some of these methods for studying phase transitions.
